The Yearbool vol1- The Ink Fiend : Corrine Stevie

             All positive connotations implied, Corrine Stevie is no less than an oddity. A fact she knows all too well, the Haitian-American painter/raptress has been a double threat since she was younger. Studying fine art since she was 11, Stevie says she’s been drawing since she was in elementary school and can remember walking around the house singing “made up songs”. But as she puts it “I definitely remember committing to art first.” A commitment which she more than honors and expands on today.

            As an artist, Corinne Stevies’ whimsical and unique paintings have solidified her as a contemporary to take note of. Her works have not only been featured in a number of different venues, but have also allowed her to set herself apart from her peers, as she and friend Kendrick Daye, became both the youngest and first African American Artists to showcase their work at the WM Turner Art Galleries. When ask to describe her art in one word, Stevie offers: “Me”.

Her debut album, “The Oddity” was released on Art Nouveau Magazines’ indie label, Nouveau Music, and showcases her creative lyrical capabilities, as well as her conceptual prowess. The music, which Stevie describes as “eclectic”, is a seemingly seamless combination of true hip hop lyricism, and innovative new age production. Stevie says the album was inspired by the Beatles and local producer Brother to Brother.

 Much like in her paintings, Stevie contributes a not-often-seen approach to her projects that is laced with an undeniable work ethic and a relatively incomparable attention to detail, a fact she says is attributed to no less than the “Authenticity, pure passion and heart” she approaches each endeavor with. As she puts it:

“Being in Atlanta has inspired me to get more professional with my work. I’ve been trying to continually push myself to the next level creatively while staying on top of things.”

            Now that Stevie has a hold on the game both musically and artistically, what is she grasping for in the upcoming year?  She says more art:

“More creativity period and that means more public murals more illustrations more music. I create to live.”
